What’s the Best Age to Start Dance Classes?
One of the most common questions is: When should I or my child start dance classes? The answer is wonderfully flexible! Dance is accessible at almost any age, and starting early can be a great advantage, but it’s never too late to begin.
Toddlers (2-4 years): Many schools offer creative movement or pre-ballet classes designed to develop coordination and rhythm in a fun, playful way. Our Pre-school class is no exception and they even get to perform on stage!
Children (5-12 years): This is a popular age to start formal dance training. Kids can learn foundational techniques and explore different styles.
We start with Minis - Reception - Year 1 and offer ballet, tap, jazz, acro and musical theatre at this age, with after school and Saturday classes available.
Our Juniors are Year 2 to Year 5 and this is where we add Singing and Acting classes on top of all the other Disciplines.
Intermediates are Year 5- Year 7 and they are really getting into the technique of their dance or performance class.
Teenagers (13-18 years): Teens often focus on refining skills and may prepare for exams or performances. These are our Advanced or Senior classes where you need to be at least Grade 4 to attend.
Adults (18+): Adult classes are growing in popularity, offering everything from beginner to advanced levels. It’s a fantastic way to stay active, meet new people, and express creativity.
Starting dance classes at any age can boost physical fitness, improve posture, and enhance mental well-being. The key is to find a school that matches your goals and pace.
Our classes start at 18 months with our Tiny Toes, perfect of parent and child to move together and bond.
